Wineries

Pennsylvania Wines!  Did you Know….

  • Pennsylvania is the 5th largest producer of grapes in The United States?
  • We rank 7th in the USA in wine production?
  • Pick any point on the map of Pennsylvania and you are never more than 1 hour from a winery.
  • Pennsylvania’s climate – hot summers and cold winters – is more like Europe than California or Australia and presents the ideal territory for emerging French-American hybrid grapes, and traditional vinifera varieties.
  • Pennsylvania produces more than 2 million gallons of wine annually and is a $1.5 Billion economic engine for our state’s agrarian economy.

Plot Annville Inn B&B on a map, and then plot all the wineries in South Central Pennsylvania, you will find our Inn is circled by a solid cluster of wineries.  Not so for other locations in Harrisburg or even Hershey.  Wineries there, yes, but when you pinpoint Annville, PA., we are blessed to be in the center of it all, ringed with wineries taking advantage of the very fertile Lebanon Valley, which is the same reason Milton Hershey located his chocolate factory here…he wasn’t interested in the grapes, but he was vitally interested in cows—dairies provided the enormous amount of milk he needed for his nascent milk chocolate enterprise!

Do you love wine? Many of our guests come to Annville Inn to use us as their “home base” when they get off the beaten path and go exploring through Pennsylvania’s rich mountains, hills and valleys. We can help you with your trail of discovery by providing established wine trails, or a list of regional wineries to custom-design your own wine trail!

Pennsylvania’s moderate climate and rolling terrain provides some of the best growing conditions on the East Coast. Here, more than 300 wineries produce a delightful array of wine varieties – perhaps more kinds than any other wine region.

Pennsylvania’s wine industry is growing in both production and reputation. At the heart of it all is the passion of its winery owners. These family-owned agricultural operations create not only a unique offering of wines, but also have developed a special brand of hospitality which is offered to the thousands who visit their wineries each year.

Here is a selection of our guests’ 23 most favorite local wineries and vineyards. We send guests to these wineries every week and listen carefully to their impressions.  Those on this list get a steady stream of compliments and we are pleased to recommend them.  Most are open year ’round.

Nearly every winery and/or vineyard we have selected for our Website has won numerous awards and citations not only in local statewide competition but around the country as well—some in California shows beat out the competition there!   Almost all wineries on this list have a wine store separate from the vineyard, offer special events and concerts, offer weddings, and more.  Many offer food.  All are within easy driving distance of our Inn!
