Pennsylvania German Heritage Springs to Life, just 30 Minutes Away!

Pennsylvania German Heritage Springs to Life, just 30 Minutes Away!

Published on February 5, 2025 On Events At the Inn & In Our Region, Hershey Area Adventures, Top Things To Dop Near Annville Inn

Pennsylvania German Heritage comes to life as a result of Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum. What Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA is to American colonial history, the Landis Valley Museum is likewise to Pennsylvania German History, Heritage, Lifeways and Farming. Visitors can experience farming days gone by due to this exemplary museum experience.

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum

Step back in time and dive into a world of rich Pennsylvania German heritage at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum. Situated in the heart of Lancaster County. The Museum was established in order to preserve and tell of Pennsylvania German Heritage during the period 1740 through 1940.

Through its historic buildings, authentic artifacts, demonstrations of traditional crafts and skills, the Museum’s visitors immerse themselves into mid-18th century to mid-20th century Pennsylvania German heritage.

Guests of Annville Inn enjoy the Inn’s attributes such as the quiet and peacefulness of their “home away from home”. Once they arise from their scrumptious candlelit gourmet breakfast prepared by Rosalie, they can easily find time in their day for a 30-minute country drive to this wonderful Pennsylvania German experience.

Following dinner out after touring the Landis Valley Village and Farm, it is time to head back to the Inn. Guests can enjoy an evening swim in the beautiful inground swimming pool, or wander through the rose gardens and maze. They can have fun coming back to the Inn for a movie in our professional movie theatre or sit by the fire in the Garden Room. Guests can also enjoy relaxing in their room’s Jacuzzi for two!

Pennsylvania Living History Museum

Visitors to the Landis Valley Village and Farm experience the sights, smells and sensations of living in the Pennsylvania German culture just as it was when life moved at a slower pace. Every day was a step forward in progress, empowerment, and successful agribusiness through entrepreneurship and the good old-fashioned, “We’ll figure out a way to do it,” perspective.

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum illuminates Pennsylvania German Heritage and is part of the PA State Museum system. It is a living history museum interpreting Pennsylvania German life from 1740-1940.

Authentic Pennsylvania German Experiences

Previously an actual rural crossroads village, Landis Valley Village has more than 40 historic structures located on 100 scenic acres. Costumed guides explain Pennsylvania German heritage, traditions and folklore.  Skilled artisans demonstrate traditional crafts along with open-hearth cooking.

Horse-drawn wagon rides are offered during special events and for groups. The Museum also features the Heirloom Seed Project, authentic farmsteads, historic breeds of animals, and the Landis Valley Museum Store. The gallery/store offers the work of the artists who demonstrate on site as well as other local artists.

The Village and Farm is focused upon authentic Pennsylvania German experiences. Whether you participate in a workshop led by expert historians or simply get lost exploring the historic exhibits and buildings of the village, Pennsylvania German Heritage springs to life and gives the visitor a positive fun and educational experience.

Open year ‘round. Tuesday – Saturday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Sunday 12:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.
