Coffee Shops – Five Top Shops Within Five Minutes
Five Coffee Shops Within Five Minutes is handy knowledge for anyone out and about for the day. While Annville Inn’s coffee comes from local roasters (See Cleona Coffee Roasters below), our Guests often seek a spot to take a break from their daily adventures.
Ancestor Coffeehouse and Crêperie, downtown Annville
Ancestor Coffeehouse & Crêperie is a locally focused café that emphasizes quality, consistency, and community. The shop serves made-to-order coffee drinks and crêpes, using locally sourced ingredients when possible, and prioritizes attentive customer service. Its coffee is roasted by its sister company, Sonder Coffee Company, a small-batch roaster that produces blends developed in-house using beans such as Colombian and Nicaraguan varieties.
The business has expanded over time, including the acquisition of Swatara Coffee Co. in 2023. Owned and operated by the Stammel family, the company continues to build on an established foundation while maintaining a focus on fresh roasting, controlled production methods, and a consistent customer experience.
Whirling Deverish, downtown Annville
A grab and go bakery and coffee shop in the community of Annville, Lebanon County, PA. Baking fresh scones, cookies, baked french toast, baked oatmeal, fresh fruit parfaits and other tasty treats. With freshly grinded coffee beans each morning for a great start to your day.
City Watch Coffee, eastern edge of Annville
City Watch Coffee, a Pennsylvania small business established in 2022, is built around a deep commitment to the craft of coffee brewing, with a focus on quality in every cup—from ethically sourced beans to locally roasted blends. As a community-driven coffee shop, it values its neighbors and actively partners with other small businesses across the state to bring customers a thoughtful selection of coffee and food. With two locations in the heart of Pennsylvania, City Watch Coffee delivers a welcoming experience that reflects its dedication to both craftsmanship and community.
Perky Shepherd Coffee, western edge of Annville
Owned by Mark and Christy Sallada, the Perky Shepherd coffee shop grew out of their existing business, 911 Rapid Response and its retail division, Homeland Outfitters, which has featured a café for the past two years. Formerly known as Cleona Coffee Roasters and originally owned by Matt Zechman – the retail coffee operation was purchased and rebranded to better reflect the Salladas’ background. The name “Perky Shepherd” is inspired by their decade of volunteer work in search and rescue alongside their German Shepherds, who have helped locate dozens of missing persons. The shop continues to proudly serve Cleona Coffee products, offering the same beloved menu and familiar faces, while also making retail items available anytime the storefront is open.
Swatara Coffee:
Swatara Coffee Co. is a family-owned coffee shop passionate about serving great coffee and delivering exceptional customer service, offering a full range of espresso-based drinks alongside house-made cold brew and kombucha, plus a wide variety of syrups to suit every taste. For those new to coffee or looking to try something different, the team is eager to help customers discover their next favorite drink. Their commitment to quality begins with their sister business, Sonder Coffee Company, a small-batch artisan roaster located at Ancestor Coffeehouse, where beans are freshly roasted each week to highlight the unique flavor notes of every varietal. Dedicated to supporting the local community, Swatara Coffee Co. also partners with nearby small businesses like Patches Family Creamery, Sweet Velvet Macarons, Whirling Dervish Bakery, and Apple Blossom Summer Kitchen to offer an even richer selection of local flavors.
Cleona Coffee Roasters
(not a coffee shop, but the source for coffee shops throughout our valley and beyond. Perkey _____, for example, sources all their coffee from Cleona Coffee Roasters.
Cleona Coffee Roasters, founded in 2021 by veteran and first responder Matt Zechman, is a community-driven roastery built on the belief that coffee brings people together. What began as a simple effort to save money grew into a passion for understanding coffee’s origins, processing, and roasting, evolving into a mission centered on quality, education, and connection. The roastery focuses on sourcing high-quality beans and roasting them intentionally to highlight their natural flavor profiles, while working toward direct relationships with farmers to improve sustainability, transparency, and consistency. As the business has grown—including an expanded team in 2025—it has remained committed to giving back, reinvesting in local causes, first responders, and service organizations through donations and fundraising efforts. At its core, Cleona Coffee Roasters exists to create exceptional coffee while fostering meaningful connections within the community.
The Five Coffee Shops Within Five Minutes of Annville Inn
The Lebanon Valley, within the past five years, has had a renaissance of coffee experiences with several well-established coffee roasters (some major commercial outfits supplying coffee to marketers up and down the east coast) who have been in the Valley a long time joined by new roasters who are helping supply the Valley’s growing interest in everything espresso, drip, pour over and more! The Five Coffee Shops within five miles of Annville Inn listed above are only a small part of a much larger number of coffee shops, all within 25 minutes of the Inn.
The Five Coffee Shops Within Five Minutes of Annville Inn join a host of other excellent coffee emporiums celebrated by visitor information bureau’s (Visit Lebanon Valley) annual Java Journey. Visit Lebanon Valley’s annual excursion around all the coffee venues in the Valley draws increasing crowds every year and features a “coffee trail” that enthusiasts can follow (not all on one day, one would hope!) over the course of the “Journey”. Those who complete the journey and get credit for their visit at each shop can receive a Java Journey mug as well as the grand prize: A getaway at what one Journey enthusiast described as the “Jewel of the Lebanon Valley”, Annville Inn B&B.
Activities such as the Java Journey indicate how serious the collective coffee enthusiast community is here in Lebanon County. We have had Guests visit as many of the Journey’s coffee shop stops as possible during their stay at Annville Inn. One day, a Guest just might win the Grand Prize!
