Rare Butterfly Tours at Fort Indiantown Gap
Rare butterfly tours are being offered to see the only known remaining population of Eastern Regal Fritillary butterflies in the eastern United States.
Looking for a unique outdoor experience this summer? Free guided tours are being offered at Fort Indiantown Gap on select dates to see a rare, endagered butterfly species. Led by wildlife staff, visitors will explore portions of the installation’s 17,000 acres while learning about the area’s diverse wildlife.
Guests will have the chance to see the rare Eastern Regal Fritillary butterfly, a species considered close to endangered, along with hundreds of species of native plants, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.
The tours will take place rain or shine on June 29 and July 1, 8, and 10. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Those interested can apply online to receive a free ticket here.
The one hour tour follows a moderately challenging trail route with gravel roads and mowed paths. Be sure to bring water, wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes, and plan for plenty of sun! The trail offers very little shade along the trail so make sure to pack your sunscreen.
